abstract

objective: to compare the efficacy of desmopressin (ddavp), tramadol and indomethacin on pain intensity of patients with acute renal colic caused by urolithiasis. m et h o d s : this prospective, randomized clinical trial was conducted between july 2005 and july 2006 including 120 patients (70 men and 50 women, mean age 38.2±5.8 years) referring to emergency room of shahid faghihi hospital with renal colic caused by urolithiasis without any previous treatment. the patients were randomly assigned to three groups: group a received tramadol 50mg intramuscularly (n=40), group b received desmopressin 40 µg intranasally (n=40) and group c received indomethacin 100mg rectally (n=40). the pain was assessed both on admission and 30 minutes after the intervention. the pain intensity and the side effects were compared between two study groups. r e s u lts: there was no significant difference between two study groups regarding the baseline characteristics. the intensity of pain of presentation was almost similar in all groups. in group a, 30 patients (75%), in group b, 15 patients (37.5%) and in group c, 19 patients (47.5%) had complete pain relief. the pain intensity decreased significantly after the intervention within all three groups ( p <0.001). c on clusion: according to the results of the current study, rectal indomethacin, intramuscular tramadol and intranasal desmopressin are effective and safe routs of controlling pain in acute renal colic secondary to urolithiasis. tramadol was the most effective agent in controlling the pain. c l in ical trial registry: the current study is registered with iranian registry for clinical trials (www.irct.ir ; irct2015030919470n18)

Intravenous acetaminophen versus morphine sulfate in pain management of acute renal colic: a randomized clinical trial

Objective: The main purpose in the treatment of renal colic patients in emergency department is pain management. This study aimed to compare the analgesic effects of intravenous (IV) acetaminophen and morphine sulfate in this regard. Methods: This double blind clinical trial was conducted on >18 years old renal colic patients in need of pain management in emer...

Efficacy and safety of parecoxib in the treatment of acute renal colic: a randomized clinical trial.

PURPOSE Although non-selective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nsNSAIDs) and opioids are effective treatments for acute renal colic, they are associated with adverse events (AEs). As cyclooxygenase-2 selective NSAIDs may provide a safer alternative, we compared the efficacy and safety of parecoxib versus an nsNSAID in subjects with acute renal colic. MATERIALS AND METHODS Phase IV., mu...

Efficacy and Safety of Parecoxib in the Treatment of Acute Renal Colic: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Few clinical studies have evaluated the use of parecoxib in acute pain due to renal colic. The objective of this study is to compare the analgesic efficacy of intravenously injected parecoxib (40 mg) versus intramuscularly injected pethidine (50 mg) in reducing pain during acute renal colic attacks. This prospectively randomized controlled trial was conducted from January 2010 to December 2012....

synergistic effects of citalopram and morphine in the renal colic pain relief; a randomized clinical trial

introduction: although the synergistic effects of opioids and other analgesic drugs such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nsaids) have been established in relieving acute pain due to renal calculi, no studies today have evaluated the concomitant administration of opiates and other drugs with analgesic effects, such as serotonin re-uptake inhibitors. considering the high prevalence of r...
